Abstract: Within the framework of the federal New Source Performance Standards (NSPS), specific regions of the country have promulgated stringent NOx emission regulations for new fossil-fired installations. For gas turbine NOx control, a combination of water/steam injection into the turbine combustion chamber coupled with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has been established as the most viable method to reduce NOx emissions to achieve the required limits. For fossil-fired boilers, some combination of selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR), SCR, and low NOx burners may be required. In most cases, application of SCR DeNOx systems will be required to comply with the levels established. Table I is a compilation of the rules and the present NOx emission requirements ultimately necessary to comply with the rules.
